The New York Times has an extensive profile on Andrey Kurkov, "Ukraine's greatest novelist" who has spent his life writing about realities so absurd they defy satire. This comment from the almost 61-year-old Kurkov sums up so aptly what we have seen from every sphere of Ukrainian society:
"I think everybody should do what he can do best for the country. The snipers should kill the enemy. The singers should sing for the soldiers and the refugees. What I can do is write and tell things, and that is what I am doing."
