Chinese author Mo Yan wins Nobel Prize

Chinese author Mo Yan has won the 2012 Nobel Prize in Literature. Jonathan Ruppin of UK bookstore Foyle's commented that: "There's been interest in Chinese literature in the last few years and people will be curious. He's clearly a very visionary and individual writer." The author, whose real name is Guan Moye, grew up as the son of farmers during the Cultural Revolution.

His novels to date are:
Falling Rain on a Spring Night (1981)
Red Sorghum (1993)
The Garlic Ballads (1995)
The Republic of Wine (2000)
Big Breasts & Wide Hips (2004)
Life and Death Are Wearing Me Out (2008)
Change (2010)

A new novel, Pow, is due to publish in 2013.
