The National Book Foundation will award its 2013 Medal for Distinguished Contribution to American Letters to E. L. Doctorow and bestow its 2013 Literarian Award for Outstanding Service to the American Literary Community to Dr. Maya Angelou at the 64th National Book Awards Ceremony on October 20.
