Today is World Book Day in the U.K and Ireland. The goal of the annual celebration "is to encourage children to explore the pleasures of books and reading by providing them with the opportunity to have a book of their own."
The event is marked by many local events at schools, libraries and bookstores but also by sending more than 14 million vouchers to children across the two countries (i.e. reaching nearly every child under 18). Children can redeem the voucher at local bookstores for a completely free copy of one of this year's 10 titles, or use it to take £1 off an print or audio book costing over £2.99.
