The American Library Association announced their Youth Media Awards today. The Newbery medal went to The Crossover, a novel in verse by Kwame Alexander (Houghton Mifflin Harcourt), and the Caldecott was awarded to The Adventures of Beekle: The Unimaginary Friend, written and illustrated by Dan Santat (Little, Brown Children's Books).
Other nominees include Jandy Nelson who won the Michael L. Printz Award for I'll Give You The Sun (Dial Books) and Sharon M. Draper who won the Margaret A. Edwards Award for "significant and lasting contribution to young adult literature."
The Coretta Scott King author award was won by Jacqueline Woodson for Brown Girl Dreaming (Nancy Paulsen Books). The illustrator award was given to Christopher Myers for Firebird (Putnam Children's), written by Misty Copeland.
